My entry into the Zelda Fanart Challenge.
*I didn't make the cut, but this was a lot of fun. As upsetting as that was, I learned a lot of techniques with this piece that I'll be using in the future -- So I did benefit. A little industry cred. to slap on my resume would have been a sweet deal, because I mean, the real prize for me would have been being in the art show to help get a little recognition, but I can always try again next time -- And I'll do something even better. Everyone else had really cool stuff though! I kind of wish I could see them all, but Nintendo is being all hush-hush on who made the top 50 so far, including the top 5. You really can only find out by searching for the people who posted their stuff. From what I saw of the competition, I think it's safe to say I need to go back to the mountains and train some more. Ha.
The most memorable scene, for me, when it came to The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, was the final challenge Link encounters in The Tower of the Gods, in which he faces off against Gohdan.
Something about that fight always stuck with me as a child. Having grown up, it's the first thing I always think of whenever the game Wind Waker comes to mind. So of course, I had to paint it. I spent many days and nights, carefully going over the designs. From what started out as something very small became one of the biggest pieces I've ever actually finished, and I actually feel like it really captures my love for this game's story, and my passion to create art.
I took the Hylian text from the game's Gamecube disc, which I believe is supposed to translate into the game's japanese title "The Legend of Zelda: Baton of Wind", and tried to create a scene mixing the styles and colors of the actual game itself, and the designs and patterns of the murals shown throughout the ancient ruins across The Great Sea.
Thanks for inspiring me to create this, Nintendo!

Now that the contest is over, people can download the full size version if they want. I mean, it's fan art. I can't sell it or anything, heh. So enjoy that.
